Here is a beautiful example of how the macrocosmic celestial relationships, whose symbolic meanings often feel so ungraspable, translate into our daily lives at the microcosmic level. This is what the delivery of the Thunderbolt (Uranus) of Destruction (Pluto) in square actually looks and feels like right here on terra firma. As many of you know, I do live in the Jemez Mountains and this fire did start just a mile from my home. Fortunately for me and my small neighborhood, it began east of us, with winds blowing east. However, it’s presence has been huge and overwhelming and, though I am safe here to the West of it, I know so many flora dying and ache for the fauna (including humans) that are threatened and struggling in its path. What I am including here is a series of “reports” I wrote to friends in Santa Fe and some of their responses which, as a whole, I believe can illuminate the deep feelings held by so many on this planet as we traverse the series of Squares between these two planets through 2015. They are, indeed, “sparking” destructive changes, the opening of old and buried wounds, and the transformation of them into something larger than our personal circumstances. It’s about personally and universally connecting to events that effect us all, though in our individual ways. In addition to these written exchanges, I have had many calls from clients, as well as conversations with village friends, regarding the welling up of sorrows and fears, intensive periods of overwhelming fatigue to an almost narcoleptic degree, as well as sudden personal crises whose end appears in doubt. This is exactly what this epoch is all about and, as these exchanges reveal, the deep and abiding drive to heal.
If you are willing to make your way through them, it is my hope that the progression in the “calls and responses” between myself and friends will elucidate the natural progression from the first “numb and dumb” recognition of a new reality and it’s often concomitant attention to “facts” (a good way to find control in uncontrollable circumstances) toward a more full and contemplative reflection on the symbolism of events, which is what astrology, life, transition and death are all about. It is also the core of what will be required of us through the Uranus/Pluto squares and klieg lights of sudden changes through the next few years. They will bring the destruction and, which will then open the way for the “something new.” But we have to extend our horizons and think long-term, just as the twists and turns of this fire have required those of us in its immediate vicinity to do. This requires endurance and courage and the simple ability to sometimes just sit with ourselves and cry. It, like aging, is definitely not for the faint of heart.
Before you continue, please do pardon the rather interesting formatting throughout. These exerpts are directly taken out of e-mails and, given all the various fonts and compatibilities of the digital world, I have not been able to format it all here in any uniform manner. Perhaps another metaphor for our confusing and disconnected world at the moment. Though that is a vestige of a past structure now falling down.
This Full Moon, at 1:39AM PST, should inspire a very beautiful, resonant sound in all of us. At its exactitude, we have a Grand Trine in the Earth signs: Moon/Mars in Virgo in the 8th house, Jupiter/Venus in Taurus in the 4th house and Pluto in Capricorn in the 1st. And all held within the open palm of the Sun in Pisces/Calypso, goddess and knower of deep emotion and the hidden depths of our souls.
Astronomically, the conjunction of Jupiter and Venus through the month of March (exact on March 13 at about 10PM PST) will be the most spectacular for years to come. They both appear together even now very brightly in the Western sky just after sunset – two beacons of beauty and benevolence that are stunning to see. They will remain visible through the month of March and will return as lovers again in May when they take up their duet in Gemini, but more on that later.
Neptune has just touched down on the waters of our collective unconscious in the sign of Pisces. That meeting place on the surface, however, is full of turbulent weather and our collective landing is not over as of yet. Imagine coming in for a touch down in a two-seater Cessna plane somewhere in the Southeast United States during a huge thunderstorm. Hands steady on the controls, here, as a sudden downdraft can catch our wings and slam us into the tarmac. With the planets in their current configuration, this possibility is very real.
I offer this fractal image as a focal point for meditation on the higher spiritual purpose of our current situation. Turbulent above, luminescent and directed below. The transition is tricky. The structures of the world, all the way down to our tectonic plates, are changing. This change will continue and April has the potential for serious disturbance on the physical plane. If we keep our eye internally directed, as the Hermit in deep solitude and reflection, we will be all right. If we thrash about in the flotsam and jetsam of these times we do have every chance of successfully drowning ourselves.
There could be no more event as appropriate for expressing the tumultuous awakening powers of Uranus than the 8.9 Richter Scale earthquake that hit Japan on the very day that Uranus surfaced from her 7-year sojourn through the submarine sign of Pisces and ascended into the fiery heavens of Aries (8:49pm March 11, 2011).
This celestial harbinger of enlightenment, disruption and the vigorous breaking up of the order of things hit her mark on the stage right on cue – within 24 hours of her transition from the watery underworld to the bright light of day. Japan’s earthquake and subsequent tsunami and possible meltdown of a nuclear reactor originated in the unconscious depths of the oceans, travelled up through the conductive medium of water, and made herself known in open air. This is the perfect metaphor for Uranus Rising and exactly the kind of roiling surface between our collective conscious and unconscious self of which I spoke in my previous two entries (Fasten Your Seat Belts and Secure Your Diving Belt). This impact will ripple across the surface of our minds for a long time to come, even as the earthquake itself has set off a vibration within the core of our planet equivalent to that of a ringing bell, which will resound into our future. We should imagine a brass tibetan singing bowl, having just been cleanly struck by our cosmic meditator. This event represents the arrival of Uranus in our consciousness and provides a full spectrum of the kinesthetic enlighenment that Uranus bestows in her wake. As astrological aspects already indicated, this Spring is destined to be unusually active with transitions and more unpredictable bellweathers forecast.
This Swing into Spring is all about switching gears in very significant ways and it is helpful to remember we have now moved into the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese Tradition. Rabbit represents the Moon, which is the yin of Heaven. Moon also rules the core of our internal self and our emotional life so we have an opportunity to channel through us these deeply felt, though ungraspable, elements into the world this year. Rabbit influences the nervous system and we can key into calming this aspect of ourselves so we can contact our higher feeling states as we move forward.
This is a fitting coincidence when placed in relationship to the celestial transitions taking place overhead as we pass through the end of one year and into the new. Elemental transitions of major planets abound throughout this season and one should watch for the changes in how our core themes will be filtered through different lenses.
