Endurance

water-lily-pond-deckingNearly two weeks after it started, the fire continues here on my front doorstep.  The nightly settling in of the smoke into the valleys gives way to thick, overbearing mornings of enforced quietude as venturing outdoors is a danger to health.  Afternoons bring winds that spread the blaze across the face of the mountain here.  Firefighters have drawn a boundary zone and have moved on to defend that line, leaving the internal fire to simply consume the forests.  It is, indeed, a living entity, this fire, bringing with it the destruction that Pluto exerts upon us all and will continue to do through it’s squares with Uranus that will, finally, end in 2015.

Enduring the phase of de-construction and discovering a “new normal” that will last for a long time after this epoch has passed is our first order during the initial phases of these squares. Those able to engage at the meta-level are most likely to meet these coming years with a sense of balance, fortitude and understanding that this experience is necessary for renewal.  The living through it is the test of character, much like this fire has become an annoying neighbor whose presence one must put up with until the neighbor decides to move away.  No choice about it at all, except in how one will meet and work with it over time.

I have received many e-mails from others’ commenting on their relationship to the news of this fire.  Those that do embrace metaphor and metaphysics have recognized that this burning brings up old wounds in need of new recognition and, ultimately, a chance to finally perish – like writing down archaic thoughts and feelings on small bits of paper and, after reading them out loud and acknowledging their deep impact on us, we throw them into the campfire under a clear, night sky.  Those wounds do hurt and it is that pain we must learn to sit with with compassion and patience.  Sometimes, those places in us seem endless, much like this fire begins to feel as though it will last forever and I must now organize my own life and continue on with meaning despite it’s presence.

Chiron and Neptune in Pisces at this time are the planets to which we can look  for inspiration in taking on the healing of those old wounds.  Chiron represents that journey at the individual level, recognizing ourselves and our personal narratives as critically important within a larger context.  That larger context is represented by Neptune, one of our gas giants, whose position as an outer planet signals the very large spiritual and emotional changes that need to take place upon our own.  We all belong to that whole, yet we will only come to terms with this epochal transformation by reaching out to our own selves, valuing the stories our very bodies hold at even the cellular level, and allowing the wounds of our culture to come to the surface.

Those waters are deep, indeed.  Kindness and courage are our best allies as we reach our hands into that reflecting pond, searching the muddy bottom for the detritus we need to hold up in the sunlight in our open palm.  It is good to remember, when feeling through that muck, that that is where water lilies’ roots are to be found.  Despite its ephemeral, moving and de-stabilizing qualities, there are anchors to be found down there, in the depths of that cool water.

Of Dreams, Calypso and Humanity

I awoke last night out of a dream in which I experienced myself as nothing more than a small point of awareness passing through a very brief moment in a particular time in history. Like a small stone passing through our atmosphere.  It wasn’t an intellectual realization, but, rather, a kinesthetic and right brain sensation of understanding.  A very pleasant, soft knowing of becoming nothing.  We strive so often and work so hard here to become something and forget the entire point is to become its opposite.  We spend so much time thinking about the world after we are gone and yet, seem never to contemplate the fact that the world has been for billions of years before we ever were.  And it did just fine without us, individually and collectively.  I think we would all do better if we were to contemplate that larger time frame, rather than our own.

At any rate, such musings are not new and others have written of similar matters before.  What was a turning point for me was that one inside of which the gap between intellectual knowledge and kinesthetic wisdom is bridged.  That bridge arrived not in the throes of full dream time, but inside that twilight of half-awake/half-asleep space where an easy flow of stream of consciousness can be experienced.  It is the space within which the mind can heal itself:  allowing the connections between the abstract, non-verbal, right brain realms and the concrete, linear left brain arena to intertwine and weave themselves into the Holistic Mind.

The Day After The End: Star Chart for October 29, 2011

It is time for a bit of grounding and re-orienting in concrete astrological cartography here after several entries of more generalized metaphysical journeys.  I have chosen the configuration for dawn of the day after the prediction of our alleged end, presumably October 28, 2011.  Many will have spent the prior evening at parties rivaling the revelries of New Years Eve celebrations in New York.  Among the german people, the proper wish to make to someone on that final day of the year is “Schoene Ruetsch.”  To “ruetsch” is to slide and the saying is meant to wish you a “happy slide” down into the new year.   The image of children and adults climbing into red sleds in the dark, all bundled up in mittens and hats and sweaters, making the final run toward the hill and jumping in the back for the big ride down into an unseen, open expanse of whiteness, has always delighted my own senses.  It takes the serious edge off the whole affair and I personally would rather travel through it with laughter and a light heart, rather than the usual anticipation of having to confront all of the puritanical plans and promises and unreasonable goals we made for ourselves that we are most likely to break and to fail.

Surfing the Trine: September 10-16, 2011

The Pluto/Jupiter/Mercury grand trine in the earth signs (Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo, respectively) that came into its full strength (using 8 degree orbs) on September 10 and exerts its strongest influence through the 16th of this month is an excellent time to make use of the harmonious energetics of the two spiritual/soul-level planets (the outer planets, here Pluto and Jupiter, which form the major themes of an individual chart) as they channel down into the personal and mundane, here escorted onto terra firma by the zippy activities of Mercury in the areas of communication, commerce and all that moves in and around our lives. With Mercury, these movements occur at both the physical and psychic levels and, with Jupiter and Pluto involved, one should be looking for shifts in our larger spiritual interpretations of life.

Pressing the Pause Button

Playful Love

Thank you to my readers for continuing to visit my blog, though my writing has been sparse of late.  That is temporary and the result of an impending move.  Packing and continuing consulting sessions are all that are on my plate for the moment.  I am appreciative of the fact that readers are using the down time to read older posts.

The mundane tasks of sorting through clothing, silverware and books does provide open time for reflection and dream time.  The dissolution of my current home has left me with ample hours to muse on these Neptunian and Plutonic times of discovering and uncovering my own (as one small part of our collective unconscious) deepest secrets and dissolving old forms of thought, assumptions and structures for conducting our lives (Neptune in Aquarius, Pluto in Capricorn, both retrograde at the moment {as are Chiron, Uranus and Mercury as well})  Reflection and review of both our personal and collective epochal themes are the order of the day.

Demeter’s Love: Part 2 -The Reclamation

Persephone Returns to Her Mother

The reclamation required in an examination of the story of Demeter and her daughter, Persephone, must be conducted on both the material and metaphoric realms in order for its message to be fully comprehended.  This is the story first and foremost of the intense love and devotion of a mother for her daughter.  It is also, however, one of the first examples of how the patriarchy takes a distinctly feminine narrative and alters it, not just for its own immediate benefit, but to shape all future narratives in service of that patriarchal agenda.  Like the asphalt and carpets that have buried the once vibrant heart of natural and holistic civilizations, the stories of ourselves have also been painted over with foreign words.  They have been left as dry, truncated husks  – empty tomes whose only purpose is to serve the needs of political, social, economic and religious institutions bent on exercising authority and power over others.

The need here is to pull up the rugs, open the closets, air out and reclaim  these narratives.  They are stories of love, passion and the deep desires of individuals to serve the good of the whole.  They were not written down at all – they were not etched into stultifying, leather-bound encyclopedias.  They were, rather, engaged in and played out within the rich and unpredictable terrain between the bookends of thousands of years of living.  They are stories of blood and birth, of harvest and cornucopias, of reverence and duty to that which is, indeed, incomprehensible to the human mind, the divine intelligence which infuses all things with life. The focus of those intertwining and intersecting epochs, eras, and communal and singular lives were centered upon the subtle and brilliant movements between the once-fluid masculine and feminine energetics, guided by the wisdom of the goddess. The Perfect Storm

Arrival

Neptune has just touched down on the waters of our collective unconscious in the sign of Pisces.  That meeting place on the surface, however, is full of turbulent weather and our collective landing is not over as of yet.  Imagine coming in for a touch down in a two-seater Cessna plane somewhere in the Southeast United States during a huge thunderstorm.  Hands steady on the controls, here, as a sudden downdraft can catch our wings and slam us into the tarmac.  With the planets in their current configuration, this possibility is very real.

I offer this fractal image as a focal point for meditation on the higher spiritual purpose of our current situation.  Turbulent above, luminescent and directed below.  The transition is tricky.  The structures of the world, all the way down to our tectonic plates, are changing.   This change will continue and April has the potential for serious disturbance on the physical plane.  If we keep our eye internally directed, as the Hermit in deep solitude and reflection, we will be all right.  If we thrash about in the flotsam and jetsam of these times we do have every chance of successfully drowning ourselves.

Secure Your Diving Belt: Chiron Descending

Jupiter has led the way in our transition of the larger, thematic planets in our Spring-time group transition from above to below and vice versa. Ruler of Sagittarius and Pisces, Jupiter’s purpose is to propel us into higher states of spiritual awareness and communal consciousness.  And, in the fire sign of Aries, its trajectory into the atmosphere promises to be vigorous and goal-oriented.  Our job here below is to exercise caution in the speed and direction of this god of fire and water, lest it either destroy both friend and foe in its wake, or overrun itself and use up its energy too quickly.  Competitive long-distance runners call this phenomenon “hitting the wall,” and, unable to keep pace with the stresses and strains accumulated from starting out too fast, melt into a puddle of wobbly muscles on the side lines.  Letting Jupiter reach its zenith in good time will result in a wondrous 4th of July sparkle of good fortune and benefit for all.

Fasten Your Seatbelts: Jupiter Ascending

Imbolc, St. Brigid’s Day, Chinese New Year, Ground Hog Day.  All of these are the different cultural traditions which mark our half-way point between our Winter Solstice and Vernal Equinox.

This Swing into Spring is all about switching gears in very significant ways and it is helpful to remember we have now moved into the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese Tradition.  Rabbit represents the Moon, which is the yin of Heaven. Moon also rules the core of our internal self and our emotional life so we have an opportunity to channel through us these deeply felt, though ungraspable, elements into the world this year.  Rabbit influences the nervous system and we can key into calming this aspect of ourselves so we can contact our higher feeling states as we move forward.

This is a fitting coincidence when placed in relationship to the celestial transitions taking place overhead as we pass through the end of one year and into the new.  Elemental transitions of major planets abound throughout this season and one should watch for the changes in how our core themes will be filtered through different  lenses.

Seeing with the Third Eye

The Celestial Third Eye

Tonight is the New Moon in Capricorn with a partial solar eclipse.  This is a magnitude of energy that is quite remarkable.  Though in North America, we will not be able to view it, we will very much feel its influence, as we have during its approach throughout the month of December.

In traditional astrology, a solar eclipse was viewed with dread – accompanied as it is with a strange, almost twilight effect during broad daylight.  It foretold of bad omens and monumental change.  That is, in fact, one interpretation of such an event and, indeed, such changes have occurred throughout history during the aftermath of an eclipse.
