This Full Moon, at 1:39AM PST, should inspire a very beautiful, resonant sound in all of us. At its exactitude, we have a Grand Trine in the Earth signs: Moon/Mars in Virgo in the 8th house, Jupiter/Venus in Taurus in the 4th house and Pluto in Capricorn in the 1st. And all held within the open palm of the Sun in Pisces/Calypso, goddess and knower of deep emotion and the hidden depths of our souls.
Astronomically, the conjunction of Jupiter and Venus through the month of March (exact on March 13 at about 10PM PST) will be the most spectacular for years to come. They both appear together even now very brightly in the Western sky just after sunset – two beacons of beauty and benevolence that are stunning to see. They will remain visible through the month of March and will return as lovers again in May when they take up their duet in Gemini, but more on that later.
Jupiter has led the way in our transition of the larger, thematic planets in our Spring-time group transition from above to below and vice versa. Ruler of Sagittarius and Pisces, Jupiter’s purpose is to propel us into higher states of spiritual awareness and communal consciousness. And, in the fire sign of Aries, its trajectory into the atmosphere promises to be vigorous and goal-oriented. Our job here below is to exercise caution in the speed and direction of this god of fire and water, lest it either destroy both friend and foe in its wake, or overrun itself and use up its energy too quickly. Competitive long-distance runners call this phenomenon “hitting the wall,” and, unable to keep pace with the stresses and strains accumulated from starting out too fast, melt into a puddle of wobbly muscles on the side lines. Letting Jupiter reach its zenith in good time will result in a wondrous 4th of July sparkle of good fortune and benefit for all.
This Swing into Spring is all about switching gears in very significant ways and it is helpful to remember we have now moved into the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese Tradition. Rabbit represents the Moon, which is the yin of Heaven. Moon also rules the core of our internal self and our emotional life so we have an opportunity to channel through us these deeply felt, though ungraspable, elements into the world this year. Rabbit influences the nervous system and we can key into calming this aspect of ourselves so we can contact our higher feeling states as we move forward.
This is a fitting coincidence when placed in relationship to the celestial transitions taking place overhead as we pass through the end of one year and into the new. Elemental transitions of major planets abound throughout this season and one should watch for the changes in how our core themes will be filtered through different lenses.
